My personal experience is that healing deep core wounds through talk therapy takes years, countless dollars, much time and great intention. My experience is also that most of us don't have the time or the money, amidst the busyness of our daily American lives, to commit to this type of work. So what do we do? wait and let our healing and health evolve with time? It will work, we will most likely get there, but what is our quality of life until this happens? Are we living full and exuberant lives? Are we realizing our dreams? Are our love relationships vibrant, supportive and alive?
So how do we heal? How do we heal efficiently, in the midst of our busy lives? In this lifetime? Now? So that we can live the benefits and experience the love, wholeness, joy and peace that we all deserve? Albert Einstein said: "The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them." Generally, not always, but generally, our minds and beliefs are the source of our problems. I don't believe that this is where we should be looking for the solutions to our problems. This is where transpersonal psychology comes in. Good methods of transpersonal psychology allow us to tap a source of wisdom within each of us that is greater than our minds and its' analysis could ever be. This part of us, what I call our "inner wisdom," has a much clearer picture of exactly what we need to heal and to be whole.
Now, I am not panning psychology or psychotherapy. I have been extraordinarily helped by the insights and wise guidance in my own therapeutic sessions. But I will say that many times I see a limitation in the lack of embodiment which a traditional therapeutic setting allows. We need to move our bodies, we need to move energies, both stuck and unwanted. We need settings where we can express ourselves to the fullest extent possible. I believe that experiential therapies and in particular transpersonal psychology, along with traditional therapy, provide the ideal setting for growth and transformation.
Within transpersonal psychology and many other non-traditional, non-western, approaches to healing is something called a non ordinary state of consciousness. In layman's terms, this is where we get out of our normal, rational, everyday minds and create a space for something else to guide us.
Holotropic Breathwork
is "among the deepest
and most profoundly
comprehensive work
of the spirit being
offered today."
~
Jack Kornfield,
author of
A Path With HeartThere are many, many ways of entering non ordinary states of consciousness (NOSC's), from Trance and Ecstatic Dance, to drumming, to drugs (both recreational and medicinal such as Peyote and Ayahuasca). The most powerful of these methods I have ever experienced outside of sacred medicines is Holotropic Breathwork. Holotropic Breathwork simply combines powerful evocative music, the breath, and a safe and sacred setting. This combination allows us to go deep into our psyches, accessing and embodying our inner wisdom allowing for powerful healing and great clarity.
Now Family Constellations, brought out of, and embodying, the great healing tradition of African medicine men and elders allows us to view the energies and karma's of our family lineages generationally. This is seen through the embodiment and expression of individuals brought together in a group setting, individuals who do not even know us, or our stories, seem to be able to express correctly the attitudes and energies of our parents, relatives, and forefathers. In these workshops we tap into a field of knowing which is nothing short of magical. We will see reasons why we are held back, reasons why our relationships do not manifest their highest potential and reasons why our dreams have not come true. We will also see expressions and visualizations which our rational minds can't even begin to understand or conceive of. This work is pure magic and filled with heart.
